I happen to have the fortunate distinction to count amongst my friends a number of, for want of a better word, hippies. They're great, kind, warm and lovely people on the whole and I love them all. But there is a problem. An attitude that exists among certain members of our society, and one that has received mainstream attention of late. I speak of course of the Iluminati, freemasons, international capitalists or just good old fashioned Big Brother.
At some point in the past, presumably when I was not looking, people actually started to believe these things existed. The belief that the same bumbling, brainless organisations that cannot perform the simplest of tasks without messing it up in some glorious way, could also be so intelligent and organised as to entrance the population of the world into ignoring their "obvious" control over us all. But as ridiculous as this theory is, that's not really what I wanted to talk about.
When did the happy, open and caring people I know become so bloody miserable? And why are so many people latching onto this dour frame of mind? I can count myself as a fortunate person, I've never had anything truly tragic happen in my life and I've been lucky on many occasions. But even so, all the things that are wrong in the world do not escape me. And there are a lot of things wrong. But there are also a lot of things going right!
Whether you agree with climate change or not, the world seems intent on pursuing a greener future on clean energy, this is good.
Crime is, in the overwhelming majority, a decreasing problem, this is also good.
War, while still a major issue is most certainly far far less of a problem than it has been in the rest of civilised human history, this is good too.
The internet and computers in general have changed society and the world as a whole, this is an awesome thing.
So while you're sat at home on your comfy chair, wasting your time reading this drivel, just remember how truly amazingly terrible your life could be, and cheer the fuck up.
